The average salary of the American company’s employees in 2017 was below $ 30,000 per year. Specifically, $ 28,446 was taken home in 2017 by a regular employee.
The salary level is much lower than in other technology companies. Facebook, for example, recently revealed that the average salary at Zuckerberg’s company is $ 240,000 a year.
The company founded by Jeff Bezos has over 560,000 employees worldwide and offers employees the opportunity to work, part-time, full-time or seasonally.
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Jeff Bezos’ e-commerce company Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) plans to create jobs for up to 55,000 people.
That job equals more than a third of Google’s employees as of June 30, and Facebook.
Chief Executive Andy Jassy told Reuters the vacancies were opening worldwide. Amazon really wants to develop its retail business, cloud, advertising and a number of other business lines.
Who would have thought, the salary offered by Amazon for a number of jobs ranging from US $ 15 equivalent to Rp. 231,750 per hour to US $ 17 or Rp. 242,250 per hour. It should be noted that is the minimum salary that Amazon employees will earn.
So if we assume an average of 8 hours of work per day and 25 days per month, then the workers can earn Rp. 1.9 million/day or Rp. 48.45 million/month.
Jassy said this job vacancy is expected to help people who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the company in the near future will launch a satellite into orbit to expand broadband access. This of course requires a lot of new employees as well.
With Amazon’s annual job fair slated to kick off on September 15, Jassy hopes now is a good time to hire.
“There have been so many jobs during the pandemic that have been moved or changed, and there have been so many people thinking about different and new jobs,” Jassy said.
“This is part of what we think makes Career Day so timely and so useful.”
Furthermore, he explained that with the addition of 55,000 new workers in the future, it will increase 20% of the staff in technology and Amazon companies, which currently number around 275,000 globally.
Amazon’s move is of particular concern to the US union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Considering that Amazon is a company that is always exposed to news that it provides excessive working hours in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After the battle, Jeff Bezos, the CEO Jassy replaced, said Amazon needed a better vision for employees.
When asked how the company can change the workplace culture, Amazon called it pressuring workers. Jassy ensures that he will continue to make improvements.
“Everyone at the company has the freedom – and really, hope – to look critically at how it could be better and then find ways to make it
The positions that Amazon marketed, such as engineering, research science and robotics roles, were mostly new to the company than the jobs that others had discontinued, he said.
In the reopening of the US economy, and a tightening labor market, some companies have struggled to fill vacancies and balance remote and face-to-face work.
Amazon, previously touted as an “office-centric culture,” then reversed its vision and offered workers the opportunity to spend just three days a week in its in-person office starting next year.
Amazon alone already employed more than 500,000 people in 2020, mostly in warehouse and shipping operations. The area has a significant turnover.
Jassy says Amazon is very competitive on the compensation side. “We’ve been leading the way in the $15 minimum wage,” and for some states the average that “really, starting salary is $17 an hour,” he explained.
Of the more than 55,000 jobs Jassy announced, more than 40,000 will be in the United States, while the rest will be in countries such as India, Germany and Japan.
Previously, Amazon promised a big tech hiring party in 2017, when it searched for a location for its second headquarters.
Officials in cities and states across North America liked the company for its jobs and taxes.
